Size & Fit Guide

Ann Taylor Size Chart

Women’s sizing for tops, dresses, suiting and bottoms in three fits — Classic, Petite and Tall — plus shoes and belts. All figures are body measurements, shown in inches with centimeters underneath.

Tops, Blouses & Knits 00 – 18

Classic fit, body measurements taken over a lightly padded bra. Sleeve is measured from the center back of the neck, across the shoulder and elbow, to the wrist.

Classic Fit — Body Measurements

16	XL	42106.5	32¼82	3589
18	XXL	44112	32¾83	3794

Start with the bust

Tops, blouses and knitwear are cut to the bust, so match your bust measurement first and check the waist only on fitted or belted styles.

Between two sizes?

Size up for structured cotton poplin, linen and anything with a defined shoulder. Size down for fluid jersey, ribbed knits and relaxed tunic shapes.

Select styles to 20/22

A handful of pants and knit styles are offered in 20 and 20/22, cut from a separate block. Use the measurement list on the product page for those.

Dresses, Sheath Styles & Suiting 00 – 18

Body measurements, nothing added for ease. Low hip is measured 8″ (20 cm) below the natural waist in Classic and Tall, and 7″ (18 cm) below it in Petite.

18	44112	3794	47119.5	32¾83

Sheath & tailored dresses

Cut close through the waist and hip with little built-in ease. Fit the largest of your three measurements and have the rest taken in.

Jackets & blazers

Sized to the bust and meant to layer over a blouse. If you are between sizes, take the larger one so the shoulders close cleanly.

Skirts

Fit the low hip, not the waist — waistbands can be altered in, hips cannot be let out.

Pants, Jeans & Skirts 00 – 18

Body measurements in Classic fit. Waist is taken at the natural waistline, low hip 8″ (20 cm) below it — not at the widest point of the seat.

Classic Fit — Body Measurements
Size	Alpha	Waistin / cm	Low Hipin / cm
00	XXS	24½62	34½87.5
0	XS	25½65	35½90
2	XS	26½67	36½92.5

16	XL	3589	45114
18	XXL	3794	47119.5

Inseam by Length

Length is chosen separately from size. These are the usual ranges — the exact inseam for a style is listed in its product details, and ankle, cropped and wide-leg cuts sit shorter by design.

Typical Inseam — By Fit
Length	Inseamin / cm	Suggested Height
Petite	26 – 28½66 – 72	5’4″ and under
Classic	29 – 3174 – 79	5’4″ – 5’8″
Tall	32 – 3481 – 86	5’9″ and over

Waist vs. hip

Trousers are drafted to the hip and taken in at the waist. If your hip says 10 and your waist says 8, buy the 10 and have the waistband adjusted.

Rise

High rise sits ½″ to 1″ below the natural waist. Mid rise drops about 1½″, so the same size feels looser through the waistband.

Petite Tops 00P – 16P

Cut for 5’4″ and under: shorter sleeve, raised armhole, adjusted shoulder width and a slightly finer bust and hip than the same numeric Classic size.

Petite Fit — Body Measurements

16P	XLP	41104	31¼79.5	34½87.5

Petite Bottoms 00P – 16P

Low hip is measured 7″ (18 cm) below the natural waist in Petite — one inch higher than Classic, which is why the hip figures run smaller than the same numeric size.

Petite Fit — Body Measurements
Size	Alpha	Waistin / cm	Low Hipin / cm

14P	LP	3384	42½108

Same number, shorter frame

A 10P is not a scaled-down 10 — it is a 10 cut for a shorter torso and leg. If you are 5’4″ or under, start with your Classic size in P.

Petite length

Petite trousers usually land at 26″ – 28½″ inseam, roughly 2½″ shorter than Classic, with a proportionally higher knee break.

Tall Tops 0T – 18T

Cut for 5’9″ and over. Bust, waist and hip match the Classic chart for the same number — what changes is a longer sleeve, a lower armhole and added body length.

Tall Bottoms 0T – 18T

Body measurements, 8″ (20 cm) below the waist. Tall starts at 0T — there is no 00T in most styles.

16T	XLT	3589	45114
18T	XLT	3794	47119.5

Height, not shoe size

Tall is aimed at 5’9″ and over. If you are 5’7″ with a long inseam, buy Tall and shorten the hem rather than sizing up in Classic.

Sleeve check

Tall sleeves run about 1¼″ – 1½″ longer than Classic at the same number, which is usually what makes a jacket cuff land at the wrist bone.

Shoes US 5 – 11

Women’s medium width (B). Half sizes available; there is no wide fitting in most styles. If you wear a wide, take the next half size up.

Belts XS – XL

Belts are sized by the waist they fit, not by the waistband of the trouser. Measure over the clothing you will wear the belt with — that figure is the one to match.

Belts — Fits Waist
Size	Fits Waistin	Fits Waistcm	1″ Below Waistin
XS	26.5	67.5	27.5
S	28.5	72.5	29.5
M	30.5	77.5	31.5
L	33.5	85	34.5
XL	36.5	92.5	37.5

Heel height

Height is measured at the center of the heel, at the back of the shoe, on a flat surface. Pumps of the same height can feel different depending on the pitch of the last.

When in doubt

Leather and suede uppers relax about a half size with wear. Snug at first is usually right for pumps; boots should clear the toe box from day one.

How to Measure

Measure over underwear or light clothing, keep the tape level to the floor and snug but not tight. Have someone help with the hip and sleeve for accuracy.

Bust

With arms at your side, measure around the fullest part of the bust, keeping the tape straight across the back and parallel to the floor.

Waist

Measure around the natural waist — the narrowest point of the torso, usually just above the navel. Do not hold your stomach in.

Low Hip

Stand with feet together and measure 8″ (20 cm) below the natural waist, or 7″ (18 cm) for Petite. This is the hip figure the charts use, not the widest point of the seat.

Sleeve

Place your hand on your hip. Start at the center back of the neck, go across the shoulder and over the bent elbow, and finish at the wrist bone.

Inseam

Measure a pair of trousers that fit you well from the crotch seam to the hem, or measure from the crotch to the ankle bone while standing barefoot. Round to the nearest ½″.

Height & fit type

5’4″ and under: Petite. 5’4″ – 5’8″: Classic. 5’9″ and over: Tall. Print size is separate from body size, so choose both.

The Three Fits

Classic

Standard proportions for 5’4″ – 5’8″. Sleeve, body length and inseam as drafted. Hips measured 8″ below the waist.

Petite

For 5’4″ and under. Shorter sleeve and inseam, raised armhole, higher knee break, hips measured 7″ below the waist.

Tall

For 5’9″ and over. Longer sleeve and inseam, lower armhole, added body and rise length. Same bust, waist and hip as Classic.

Care & Returns

Sizes shown: US women’s numbering, 00 through 18, with Petite (P) and Tall (T) cut from the same numbers. A 10P is a 10 for a shorter frame, not a smaller 10.
Between sizes: size up for tailored, lined and non-stretch pieces; size down for fluid knits and relaxed shapes.
Suiting: jackets and trousers are sold separately in the same numeric size. If your jacket and trouser sizes differ, buy each in its own size.
Care: follow the label inside the garment. Most suiting and dresses are machine washable cold or dry clean; knits should be dried flat to hold their shape.
Returns: unworn items with tags attached, in the original condition, within the window stated on your order. Petite and Tall follow the same policy as Classic.

Measurements are body measurements in inches, with approximate centimeter equivalents. Sizing follows Ann Taylor’s published fit guide and may vary slightly by style and fabric.
